Hult Prize at Hawler Medical University 2020
Hult Prize at Hawler Medical University 2020
Dr. MamRash applied to become Campus Director for Hult Prize 2020 during his IYLEP program in the USA in August 2019. He was accepted, and upon his return to Erbil, he was informed that he had been selected as Campus Director of Hult Prize at Hawler Medical University. However, another student from Hawler Medical University - college of pharmacy, had also been selected for the same position. Upon being informed of the mistake, Dr. MamRash and the other student were interviewed again by the Hult Prize team, and Dr. MamRash was selected once more.
Dr. MamRash then selected Dr. Helen Mirkhan, and together they formed a team of 7 active student organizers. Despite facing opposition from some students in the college of pharmacy who were acting to make the event a failure, Dr. MamRash designed and printed marketing materials to promote and recruit teams to come up with entrepreneurship ideas under the Hult Prize 2020 theme “Building Startups That Have A Positive Impact On Our Planet With Every Dollar Earned.”
The presidential office of Hawler Medical University initially did not show willingness to support or give intentions to let them do the event under the university’s name. However, with the help of Mr. Nechirvan Kalary, the Secretary General of Kurdistan Students Union, they were able to collaborate with the university for the student-led project. Although, the dean of the College of Medicine did not support the event and did not even allow promotion within the college, Dr. MamRash managed to secure several sponsors and support from multiple governmental establishments.
Despite these obstacles, Dr. MamRash and his team continued their efforts to find sponsors and governmental support. Less than a week before the event, Dr. MamRash spent a considerable amount of money on marketing but did not have any sponsors to fund the project. However, days before the event, they received support from several sponsors and support from multiple governmental establishments.
At that time, Dr. MamRash had already contacted professionals in business to become judges for the competing teams. The project was implemented on November 21st, 2019, at Saad Abdulla Hall, with 300 attendees. Rudaw and K24, two big media channels, streamed the event with Dr. MamRash giving the opening speech.
The event was a success, with one team receiving full support from the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Kurdistan Regional Government to participate in the regional competition in Lebanon. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the airport was closed, and the teams had to do their competition on a regional level virtually.

Nevertheless, the event was able to showcase the talents and entrepreneurial spirit of the participating students, and Dr. MamRash's efforts as Campus Director were instrumental in making it happen.
